چکیده

The rhizobial bacteria can be readily grown on a variety of media containing complex nutrient extracts of microbial, mineral, or plant origin, but growth on nonsupplemented carbohydrate-inorganic salts media is poor for most species. Only a minor part of the extensive research devoted to Rhizobium has dealt with the minimum requirements for cultural growth (Wilson, 1940; Wilson and Wilson, 1942; Allen and Allen, 1950). Establishment of minimal media is prerequisite to the isolation of nutritional mutants, potentially useful in the study of the biochemical basis of nodulation (infectiveness) and nitrogen fixation (effectiveness). Besides establishing a need for media adapted to specific cultural experiments, the induction of such cultural marker characters requires periodic testing of variants for retention of infectiveness and effective-

Genetic diversity of rhizobia nodulating Trifolium ambiguum in North America.

Kura clover (Trifolium ambiguum M.B.) is a persistent rhizomatous forage legume, whose use in the U.S.A. is limited by establishment difficulties in part attributable to nodulation problems. In this study, soil was collected from established stands of Kura clover growing in 9 diverse North American environments. Rhizobia were plant-trapped using Kura clover cv. Endura as host, then rhizobia fro...

Characteristics of the rhizobia associated with Dalea spp. in the Ordway, Kellogg-Weaver Dunes, and Hayden prairies.

Habitat fragmentation affects the biodiversity and function of aboveground organisms in natural ecosystems but has not been studied for effects on belowground species. In this paper, we consider the diversity of the rhizobia associated with the indigenous legume Dalea purpurea in 3 residual prairie areas in Minnesota and Iowa. Using Dalea purpurea as a trap host, 218 rhizobia were recovered fro...

The transition of Rhizobium fredii lipopolysaccharides induced by soybean root exudation

The chemical compounds contained in leguminous plant root exudation induce structural and compositional transitions of the lipopolysaccharides of Rhizobium that occur during rhizobia-legume symbiotic infection processes. The root exudate was extracted from the seed germinated solution and seedling roots of soybean. We added the exudation to bacteria cultured medium. Rhizobium and Bradyrhizobium...

Interindividual differences in radiation-induced apoptosis of peripheral blood leukocytes in normal individuals and breast cancer patients

Background: Quantification of radiation-induced apoptosis in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) has been proposed as a possible screening test for cancer-prone individuals and also for the prediction of normal tissue responses after radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: The neutral version of the comet assay (single-cell gel electrophoresis) was used 24, 48, 72 hours after irradiation ...

High spatial variation in population size and symbiotic performance of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii with white clover in New Zealand pasture soils

Biological nitrogen fixation through the legume-rhizobia symbiosis is important for sustainable pastoral production. In New Zealand, the most widespread and valuable symbiosis occurs between white clover (Trifolium repens L.) and Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii (Rlt). As variation in the population size (determined by most probable number assays; MPN) and effectiveness of N-fixation (symbi...
